The final game of the Chicago Cubs–Boston Red Sox series is packing up and heading south. Instead of Fenway Park, Sunday's matchup will now be played at Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay, a shift triggered by a nor'easter causing problems across the northeastern United States.
The Tampa Bay Rays announced the relocation, according to WFLA, and MLB also reported that the game would be played at Tropicana Field. WFLA reports that first pitch is set for 3:05 p.m. on September 27, the Red Sox will remain the home team, and tickets are available through the Rays.
Rays CEO Ken Babby said the club would host the two teams and welcome their fans to Tropicana Field.
A Ballpark With Practice Filling In
Tropicana Field has hosted other weather-displaced MLB games. According to MLB's historical account, the Rangers and Astros played three games there from Aug. 29-31, 2017, during Hurricane Harvey. The Cubs-Astros games at Miller Park in Milwaukee were held Sept. 14-15, 2008, because of Hurricane Ike.
Tropicana Field was restored, and the Rays returned there for the 2026 season.
Getting Into the Ballpark
For fans in the Tampa Bay area hoping to catch the rescheduled game, Tropicana Field's gates will open 90 minutes before first pitch. Tickets are available in the 100 level and 200 level, and can be purchased online at raysbaseball.com/cubsredsox.
The nor'easter brought weather alerts to Boston during the same weekend as the relocated game. The National Weather Service forecast listed coastal flood, high wind and high surf alerts for the area.
