A man accused of threatening an employee and stealing items from a business in North Austin is now the subject of an active search by Austin police, who released a detailed physical description while asking the public to come forward with tips. The incident happened at 10:34 a.m. on Sept. 17 in the 9700 block of North Capital of Texas Highway southbound.
Austin police said they are asking for the public's help identifying a suspect accused of robbing a business in the area, according to KXAN. Per APD, the suspect threatened an employee before stealing items from the store, the outlet reported. Investigators have released a physical description and are appealing for video that could help identify him.
The suspect is described as a white man between 30 and 40 years old with a medium build, a balding head with brown hair on the sides, and tattoos on his left arm, according to the same report. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt, dark-colored shorts, black long socks and white shoes, and was carrying a black North Face backpack, the outlet noted.
Detectives Want Cellphone or Surveillance Footage
APD detectives are requesting cellphone or surveillance video that may have captured the suspect leaving the scene, per the same account. No arrest has been announced, and the name of the business targeted has not been made public.

Austin police reported 187 robberies in the first quarter of 2026, just one fewer than during the same period in 2025, according to the Austin American-Statesman. That held nearly flat even as the city's overall reported violent crime total fell from 1,030 cases in the first quarter of 2025 to 968 during the same period this year, the newspaper reported.
Robberies made up about 19% of Austin's first-quarter violent crime, per the same report, while robberies dropped more than 20% across the major U.S. cities included in the newspaper's survey. Austin had about 97 reported violent offenses per 100,000 residents from January through March, the Statesman noted — a backdrop that underscores why individual robbery investigations, like the one unfolding in North Austin, continue to draw close attention from detectives seeking to identify suspects before trends shift further.
APD has pursued similar public appeals in other robbery cases this year, including a May 26, 2026, incident at 2:10 a.m. outside Mala Fama at 422 E. 6th Street, in which a suspect allegedly stole cash from a victim and punched him, causing him to lose consciousness, according to the Austin Police Department. It is not established whether that case is connected to the North Capital of Texas Highway robbery. For now, investigators are focused on gathering video and tips that could put a name to the man described in the North Austin case.
