A 55-year-old man is sitting in the Harris County Jail after deputies say he assaulted two women, including an elderly victim whose injuries matched what she told investigators, during a disturbance call in North Harris County on September 8. John Boyd was booked on a charge of injury to an elderly individual, and authorities say more charges tied to an alleged sexual assault are still coming.
According to Mark Herman, Harris County Constable Precinct 4, deputies responded to a disturbance report in the 16000 block of Royal Stone Lane and met with two female complainants, one of whom was elderly. Deputies observed injuries on the elderly woman that were consistent with her account, and both women reported that Boyd had physically assaulted them. Deputies located and detained Boyd at the scene before he was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail.
Boyd, born July 30, 1971, has not yet had bond set, with his case pending out of the 195th District Court, a state district court in Harris County that holds original jurisdiction over felony proceedings, according to the Texas Legislature. Investigators say additional charges related to the reported sexual assault are expected as the investigation continues.
The Charges Boyd Already Faces
Under Texas Penal Code Section 22.04, causing bodily injury to someone 65 or older is prosecuted as Injury to an Elderly Individual, a felony offense that can range from a state jail felony up to a first-degree felony punishable by 5 to 99 years or life in prison depending on intent and injury severity, per Andrew Deegan Law. Texas law sets a relatively low bar for that initial charge — any physical pain or impairment can meet the threshold for bodily injury — but the presence of serious bodily injury, a deadly weapon, or sexual violence can push the charge up to a first-degree felony, according to Versus Texas.
If prosecutors move forward with the expected sexual assault charges, Boyd's exposure would grow substantially. Sexual assault is generally prosecuted as a second-degree felony in Texas, carrying 2 to 20 years in prison, fines up to $10,000, and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration upon conviction, according to the Morales Law Office.
A Constable's Office Covering 520 Square Miles
The arrest fell to Harris County Precinct 4, led by Constable Mark Herman, which employs more than 670 sworn deputies and serves roughly 1.1 million residents — making it the largest constable agency in the country. Precinct 4's jurisdiction spans 520 square miles of unincorporated North Harris County, including Spring, Klein, and Cypress, the communities where Royal Stone Lane sits.
Herman said in the post that “crimes against our elderly and vulnerable residents will not be tolerated,” adding that “deputies acted quickly to apprehend the suspect and investigators will pursue all appropriate charges.” The post also noted that Boyd, like anyone named in it, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Elder Abuse Cases Add Up Across Harris County
The Harris County District Attorney's Office runs a dedicated Elder Abuse Section that works alongside the Senior Justice Assessment Center and Adult Protective Services to investigate and prosecute violent crimes against older residents. That infrastructure exists because the caseload is heavy: Adult Protective Services completed 9,751 elder abuse investigations in Harris County in 2024, the highest volume of any county in the state, according to the San Antonio Express-News.
Statewide, Texas Adult Protective Services fielded more than 120,000 elder abuse reports in 2023, and national data shows family members or known acquaintances are behind nearly 47 percent of elder abuse cases, per the San Antonio Area Foundation. The investigation into Boyd remains open, and no additional details on the relationship between the suspect and the victims, or the timeline for further charges, have been released.
