A 28-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot multiple times on the 2100 block of North 18th Street in North Philadelphia, police said. Officers were called to the scene around 8:18 p.m. Saturday for a report of a shooting and found the man wounded before he was taken to the hospital.
According to NBC10 Philadelphia, officers found the man with multiple gunshot wounds after responding to the scene, and he was taken to the hospital where he remains in critical condition. Police have made no arrests, and as of this report, no suspect description, motive, or weapon information has been released.
The block has seen gun violence before. Back on July 26, a 38-year-old man was hospitalized in stable condition after he was shot in the same area of the 2100 block of North 18th Street while leaving a party, according to a separate report from the station's coverage. In that case, Temple University Police officers responded to Temple University Hospital around 3:50 a.m. after the victim arrived by private vehicle with a gunshot wound to his right knee, and no arrests were made and no motive was determined, per the same account.
A Stretch of North 18th Street With a History of Violence
The 2100 block has also been the scene of more severe violence in years past. In a shooting described in the outlet's separate report on three Philadelphia shootings, a 14-year-old boy was shot three times while sitting on a stoop in front of a home on the block and was hospitalized in critical condition, with no arrests made and no weapons recovered in that case or two others detailed in the same report. And on Aug. 24, 2021, a 14-year-old boy was shot on that same block and critically injured before being taken to Temple University Hospital, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The repeated violence on this single block comes as killings in Philadelphia were declining. As of a recent Wednesday morning, the city had recorded at least 350 homicides, up 19% from 2016, per the earlier NBC10 Philadelphia report on the string of shootings.
