A 50-year-old Ocoee woman died overnight after the car she was driving suffered a possible medical episode, veered off North Hiawassee Road, and slammed into a tree near a business parking lot, according to a Florida Highway Patrol crash report. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
The woman was driving a 2016 Lexus IS northbound on North Hiawassee Road near Clarcona Ocoee Road when the vehicle suddenly veered to the left and entered a nearby business parking lot, according to the crash report detailed by WFTV. The Lexus struck a curb, a fence, and finally a tree before coming to rest. FHP has said the driver experienced a possible medical episode, though authorities have not released additional details about what that episode entailed. The Orlando Sentinel reported that the crash occurred overnight and remains under investigation.
The woman was transported to AdventHealth Apopka, a 120-bed acute care hospital with a 24/7 emergency department that serves as the primary receiving facility for northern Ocoee and Apopka residents. She was pronounced deceased there. The crash remains under investigation by authorities, and FHP has not yet released a final determination on the cause.
