One person is dead and another was rushed to the hospital after gunfire erupted in broad daylight in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade area on Saturday afternoon, according to police. Officers found both victims after responding to reports of shots fired on Arden Way near Arden Fair Mall. Police had not found the shooter or shooters at the scene and had not released suspect information.
Sacramento police officers responded around 3:30 p.m. Saturday to the 1700 block of Arden Way, where they located two gunshot victims, according to CBS Sacramento. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was taken to a nearby hospital, per KCRA. Police said the shooting remains under investigation and had not released suspect information at the time.

Violence in a Neighborhood With a Recent History
This is not the first violent incident to hit Arden-Arcade in recent months. Hoodline previously reported on a deputy shooting that shut down Edison and Watt avenues after a carjacking pursuit earlier this month.
Zooming out, though, the broader trend across Sacramento County has actually been moving in the opposite direction. The county recorded 67 total homicides across all jurisdictions in 2025 — a 23% decline from 2024 and its lowest single-year total in at least 40 years — while law enforcement recorded 62 homicide clearances, a figure that can include cases from previous years, reaching a 15-year high clearance rate, according to Abridged. Within Sacramento city limits specifically, homicides totaled 42 in 2025.
Investigators have not released a motive, and it remains unclear whether the victims were targeted inside a business or out along the roadway.
