An Orlando couple is preparing for their family to grow from two people to six after Ali and Lucas Dubs learned they were expecting quadruplets, conceived without any fertility treatment. The couple has reached the third trimester of the pregnancy.
Ali and Lucas Dubs stopped by The 407 to share their journey and open up about the initial shock of learning four babies were on the way, according to FOX 35 Orlando. The couple shared a video about the pregnancy and plans to expand their family from two people to six, according to a Facebook post from the couple.
Before the pregnancy made headlines, Ali worked as a professional dancer and Lucas served in the U.S. Navy. The couple also discussed their story in a separate Facebook video.
A Pregnancy Doctors Call Statistically Extraordinary
Spontaneous quadruplets — meaning four babies conceived naturally, without IVF or fertility drugs — are exceptionally uncommon. Medical experts and OB-GYNs cited by Business Insider estimate the odds of conceiving quadruplets naturally at somewhere between 1 in 700,000 and 1 in 1 million pregnancies.
That rarity is reflected in national birth statistics, with BabyCenter citing 128 quadruplet births in 2023. National statistics track higher-order multiple births over time, while fertility treatment generally involves fewer embryo transfers.
Ali Dubs Reaches the Third Trimester
Pregnancy updates mention a biweekly appointment. Quadruplet pregnancies are associated with prematurity and an increased likelihood of Cesarean delivery, according to medical information published on BabyCenter.
Higher-order multiple pregnancies carry risks including severe preterm delivery, preeclampsia, and low birth weight, making close monitoring important.
Central Florida's Highest Level of Newborn Care
Central Florida is home to Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies, which provides care for women and babies, according to Orlando Health.
Delivering quadruplets is a major logistical undertaking on its own. For Ali and Lucas Dubs, the delivery now looms as the next chapter in a pregnancy journey they never expected to be quite this crowded.
