PA Cyber has reopened its South Side regional office in Pittsburgh with double the square footage, giving the online public school a 7,000-square-foot hub that now serves roughly 1,200 students across Allegheny County and the surrounding area with four full-time employees on site.
The expansion, announced by the school as reported by WPXI, doubles the footprint of the previous South Side location. The renovated space includes an expanded lobby and an additional flex room built to host concurrent enrichment activities, STEM workshops and art classes for enrolled families, according to PA Cyber. David Veon, PA Cyber's supervisor of regional offices, said families were excited to see the updated office, describing it as essentially the students' schoolhouse.
Regional offices like the one in Pittsburgh’s South Side serve as hubs for enrollment, orientation and year-round enrichment activities, per WPXI's report, and Veon said the sites give students and families places to connect and become part of the community. Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School is an online public school based in Midland, and the South Side location is one of two PA Cyber offices in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area, alongside a second regional office in Warrendale.
A Statewide Network Built Around Local Hubs
PA Cyber maintains a network of nine regional offices spread across Pennsylvania, including sites in Greensburg, Harrisburg, Philadelphia and State College, according to Pittsburgh Parent. Those offices function as physical touchpoints for a school that otherwise delivers instruction entirely online, providing families with in-person support.
Founded in Midland in 2000, PA Cyber is the state's longest-operating online public school, per the same account. Pittsburgh Parent describes the school as accredited by Middle States.
Pennsylvania Cyber Charter Enrollment
Statewide enrollment in Pennsylvania cyber charter schools reached nearly 60,000 full-time students during the 2023-2024 school year, giving Pennsylvania more full-time cyber charter students than any other state, as reported by Chalkbeat.
Pittsburgh Parent lists laptops, printers, headsets and writing tablets among the technology PA Cyber provides to students.
Funding Overhaul Reshapes the Cyber Charter Landscape
The South Side expansion arrives as Pennsylvania lawmakers work through the fallout of Act 47, enacted in 2025 to reform cyber charter funding. The law created updated tuition calculation formulas intended to save local public school districts an estimated $178 million statewide, while also introducing new truancy and residency rules, according to FOX43 News.
FOX43 reported more than 200 layoffs at Insight PA. Larger schools can absorb cuts, while PA Cyber's South Side expansion presents a contrasting development amid the new formulas.
