Parker police locked down a residential area for hours, urging nearby residents to stay inside, lock their doors and keep strangers out, after a family member called 911 to report a relative was armed and acting erratically. Douglas County Regional SWAT and crisis negotiators descended on the neighborhood before the person was taken into custody that night, bringing the standoff to a close.
According to Denver7, the incident began around 6:30 p.m. in the 19700 block of East Centerville Court, when a caller told 911 dispatchers that their family member was “acting erratically” and armed with a gun. The station reported that the Parker Police Department then enacted a nearly four-hour shelter-in-place order for nearby residents. Separately, KDVR reported, per a police social media post, that the shelter-in-place order was issued at 11:25 a.m. and applied to the area of Neu Towne Parkway and Cedar Gulch Lane — a timeline and location that differ from Denver7's account. The two outlets' reporting could not be reconciled, and Hoodline is presenting both versions as reported.
Police Urged Residents to Stay Inside and Lock Doors
Regardless of the exact timing, both outlets described a heavy police presence and a community asked to take precautions. Per KDVR's report of the police post, the Parker Police Department urged nearby community members to go or remain inside, to avoid letting anyone into their homes, and to close and lock all doors and windows. Residents were also told to call 911 in the event of an emergency.
Denver7 reported that the shelter-in-place order covered residents in the area of Parker and Indian Pipe Lane, as well as those near Parker and Hess — again a different footprint than the one KDVR described. The same station reported that the Douglas County Regional SWAT team and negotiators were called to the scene as the standoff unfolded.
Suspect Taken Into Custody, Order Lifted
After several hours, the suspect was taken into custody around 10 p.m., Denver7 reported, and the shelter-in-place order was lifted shortly after. The station's reporting does not specify the exact time the order ended, only that it followed the arrest.
The Parker standoff echoes an earlier Douglas County-area case from a house on U.S. 285 between Conifer and Pine Junction, where an armed 37-year-old man was barricaded with his 69-year-old mother in 2018, according to denverpost.com. In that incident, Jefferson County SWAT team members worked into the night to try to get both the mother and son out safely, and residents in that neighborhood were also advised to shelter in place while the standoff played out.
