A pedestrian was left in critical condition early Friday after being struck by a vehicle near Eastern Avenue and Cedar Avenue in east Las Vegas, prompting police to shut down part of Cedar Avenue for hours during the morning commute. The crash was reported shortly after 5 a.m., and officers urged drivers to seek alternate routes while they worked the scene.
According to KSNV, the pedestrian was taken to a hospital by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and remained in critical condition. Cedar Avenue was blocked between Eastern Avenue and 23rd Street as investigators processed the scene, and police asked motorists to avoid the area entirely rather than try to navigate around the closure. A separate incident listing from Citizen placed the report at North Eastern Avenue and Cedar Avenue in East Las Vegas at 5:21 a.m.
No further details have been released about what led up to the collision. The station's report does not identify the vehicle involved, the driver, or the pedestrian, and it has not been established whether the pedestrian was in a crosswalk at the time.
A Rough Stretch for East Valley Pedestrians
Friday's crash comes just days after two other pedestrian collisions rattled the same part of the valley. Metro Police investigated two pedestrian crashes in the east Las Vegas valley on the night of Sept. 14, one of them fatal, per reporting from the Las Vegas Sun. In one of those incidents, a pedestrian was critically injured after being struck on West Tropicana Avenue east of Duneville Street and was rushed to University Medical Center.
The fatal crash that same night happened on North Nellis Boulevard, where a 44-year-old man was killed at approximately 8:47 p.m., according to FOX5. Police said the man was crossing Nellis Boulevard westbound outside of a marked or implied crosswalk when he was struck by a Genesis GV60, whose driver fled the scene heading south. The driver, identified as 35-year-old Broderick Brunlinger of Las Vegas, was later booked into the Clark County Detention Center on hit-and-run charges, the Sun reported.
Fewer Deaths, But Danger Persists
The string of crashes lands against a backdrop of improving, though still troubling, numbers countywide. Clark County recorded 127 traffic fatalities through Aug. 31 this year, down close to 25% from 169 during the same stretch in 2025, per the Sun's review of local data. Pedestrian deaths specifically also fell, with 44 recorded through Aug. 31 compared with 54 during the same period last year.
Even with that improvement, this week's cluster of crashes underscores how exposed pedestrians remain along east valley corridors like Eastern Avenue, Cedar Avenue, Tropicana Avenue and Nellis Boulevard. Police have not said whether Friday's crash at Eastern and Cedar is connected in any way to the earlier incidents, and no citations or charges tied to the latest collision have been announced.
