All southbound lanes of I-25 between Highway 119 and Highway 66 were closed early Saturday after a pedestrian was killed in a collision with a semi near Mead. Authorities had not provided an estimate for when the lanes would reopen.
Colorado State Patrol Trooper Sherri Mendez said the crash occurred at about 4:53 a.m., according to Denver7. The pedestrian was struck on southbound I-25 in the Mead area.
Southbound Lanes Remain Closed Indefinitely
The closure covered all southbound lanes between Highway 119 and Highway 66 while crews worked at the scene, Denver7 reported. No reopening estimate had been given at the time.
Colorado State Patrol is investigating how the pedestrian came to be on the interstate, Denver7 reported. As of Saturday morning, no further details about the pedestrian or the semi’s driver had been released.

The Colorado Department of Transportation reported 46 pedestrian fatalities statewide through May 31, 2025. That midyear figure is not an annual total and does not show how yearly totals have changed. For the corridor, CDOT says its I-25 North Express Lanes project runs from Colorado Highway 66 in Mead to just south of CO 56 and is expected to be complete in 2028.
What Remains Unknown
The circumstances that led the pedestrian onto the interstate before dawn remain under investigation. Without a reopening estimate, the duration of the southbound closure was not yet clear.
