The Pittsburgh Penguins’ 60th NHL season begins at home Saturday, October 3, against the Montreal Canadiens. Puck drop at PPG Paints Arena is set for 7 p.m., following a pregame ceremony marking the anniversary.
The Penguins have announced plans for a season-long celebration during 2026-27, according to NHL.com. Fans are encouraged to arrive early for the October 3 ceremony, CBS Pittsburgh reports. The team’s retro-inspired anniversary logo has five stars representing its Stanley Cup championships and gold, white and black stripes evoking Pittsburgh’s Three Rivers.
Anniversary touches on the ice and at the arena
The anniversary logo will appear on players’ helmets for every home and road game this season, according to the team’s announcement. For the home opener, it will also be on the shoulders of the jerseys. Starting October 3, the Penguins Foundation will sell replica jersey patches bearing the logo at PPG Paints Arena and online, while supplies last.
The team’s promotional schedule lists 16 giveaways across the 2026-27 home schedule. Anniversary-themed items include a lapel pin set for the November 5 game against Boston, an apron for November 25 versus Calgary, a commemorative poster for December 18 against Seattle and a patterned shirt for the March 14 matchup with Detroit.
Tributes to Hall of Famers and the 2017 champions
The Penguins say their second annual Hall of Fame Game, against the Ottawa Senators on November 14, will include the induction of Marc-Andre Fleury, Jim Rutherford and Larry Murphy as the Class of 2026. Later in the season, the club plans a pregame ceremony for the 10-year anniversary of its 2017 Stanley Cup championship team. Every fan attending that game will receive a commemorative championship ring.
The franchise’s NHL beginnings and five titles
The Penguins joined the NHL as part of the League’s six-team 1967 expansion, alongside the Flyers, Blues and Los Angeles Kings, according to NHL.com. The Pittsburgh Penguins’ official awards page lists Stanley Cup championships in 1991, 1992, 2009, 2016 and 2017. The 2017 team is the latest title-winning season on that list and is the focus of the planned 10-year anniversary tribute.
Nostalgia-themed ticket packages
Some anniversary-season items will be tied to ticket packages rather than arena-wide giveaways. The November 3 game against Vegas has an 80s Night T-shirt package, the December 18 contest versus Seattle a 90s Night T-shirt, and the March 9 game against Ottawa a Y2K Night T-shirt. Select November home-game packages will also offer a limited-edition 60th Anniversary Zamboni Gravy Boat.
The celebration isn't confined to PPG Paints Arena. SportsNet Pittsburgh is planning wall-to-wall coverage of the organization's season-long anniversary celebration across its linear, streaming, digital and social platforms, according to SportsNet Pittsburgh. The network's 67-game broadcast slate will include expanded live gameday programming, with one hour of pregame and one hour of postgame coverage built into every game presentation. The network also aired 60 consecutive hours of Penguins coverage beginning Monday, September 28, at 5 a.m. ET, tying the marathon broadcast to the franchise's 60-year milestone.
