A pickup truck slammed into a toll booth on State Road 417 near the Curry Ford Road off-ramp Thursday, leaving one person with serious injuries. The driver was rushed to a hospital as troopers shut down part of the exit ramp to investigate.
According to FOX 35 Orlando, the Ford Ranger was heading south on SR-417 when it entered the exit ramp and lost control, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The truck then struck the toll booth near the Curry Ford Road off-ramp in Orange County.
The driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, per the outlet's report. FHP had not released any other details about the crash, including what caused the driver to lose control.
Ramp Traffic Disrupted During Investigation
The inside lane of the exit ramp remained blocked as the crash stayed under investigation, the station's report states. No timeline was given for when the lane might reopen.
The stretch of SR-417 around Curry Ford Road has seen its share of serious wrecks in recent years. On July 4, 2023, a crash on the northbound side near mile marker 29 killed one man and injured two others after witnesses told FHP the vehicle was traveling faster than the posted speed limit and lost control, according to the Orlando Sentinel. That crash saw the vehicle strike the outside shoulder guardrail and begin overturning before catching fire, and the northbound outside lane along with the exit ramp to Curry Ford Road were closed while troopers investigated.
A Corridor With a History of Crashes
Earlier this year, on February 10, 2026, a separate crash blocked SR-417 in Orange County, per ClickOrlando. In 2019, a fiery two-vehicle wreck on southbound SR-417 south of Curry Ford Road killed one person after a vehicle ran into the back of a truck pulling a trailer and caught fire, ClickOrlando reported at the time, with the driver pronounced dead at the scene.
Another crash on the corridor, reported by wesh.com, left five people injured, including one child, when four adults and a child were taken to the hospital shortly before 10 a.m. All southbound lanes near Curry Ford Road were blocked before reopening shortly before 11 a.m., though officials never released the cause of that wreck.
Thursday's crash remains under investigation, and Florida Highway Patrol has not said whether the driver of the Ford Ranger will face any citations or charges.
