According to the Pierce County Sheriff's Office, animal control officers responded to the property on September 21 after receiving complaints about the alleged rescue operation. Investigators located the 15 dogs confined to small crates in one garage, with two of the animals showing signs of injury. In a second garage on the same property, officers found two cats confined to cages, also without access to clean food or water — conditions officials say the cats had likely endured for approximately five days.
A Warrant, a Rescue, and a Referral to Prosecutors
Armed with what they found, animal control obtained a warrant on September 22 to remove all of the animals from the property. All 15 dogs and both cats were taken into custody that same day and transported to a licensed rescue, where officials say they will receive proper care, food, water, and medical attention as needed, as noted by Pierce County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office says the people running the operation lacked both a kennel license and the resources necessary to properly operate an animal rescue. Potential animal cruelty charges stemming from the case will be forwarded to the prosecutor's office for review, though no charges had been filed as of the announcement.
