A stray shower is possible this morning, but most of the day should stay partly sunny and dry. South to southwest winds will be gusty, according to the latest National Weather Service Pittsburgh forecast.
Storm Threat Builds After Dark
Storm chances increase this evening, with activity potentially developing north of the city between about 7 and 9 p.m. and moving toward Pittsburgh between 9 and 11 p.m. A few storms could bring damaging wind gusts, frequent lightning and brief heavy rain, while a funnel cloud or brief tornado cannot be ruled out in the stronger storms north of Pittsburgh.
Rain and thunderstorms are expected to become more widespread late tonight and continue into early Thursday. Rainfall totals of roughly a quarter-inch to a half-inch are possible, and the weather service says additional rain Thursday could create isolated flooding concerns near creeks and streams.
Thursday Stays Wet Before A Friday Reset
Thursday looks markedly cooler, with showers and thunderstorms likely and a high near 78 degrees. The updated timing and storm threat sharpen the unsettled midweek pattern discussed in an earlier Hoodline Pittsburgh forecast.
Friday brings the week's cleanest weather, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 79. The weekend turns warmer again, reaching about 82 Saturday with only a small chance of showers Saturday night; Sunday is outside the current forecast. Monday should be partly sunny near 84, followed by another storm chance Tuesday.
Lightning And Downpours Could Disrupt Plans
Outdoor plans Wednesday night and Thursday should have a backup, especially north of Pittsburgh and near low-lying areas. Move indoors when thunder is heard, secure loose outdoor items before the evening wind picks up, and avoid driving through water covering a roadway.
