Police account of the shooting
Michael Joshua Chak, 33, died after being shot at the Home Depot at 1670 W. Orange Blossom Trail in Apopka on July 28, 2026. Apopka police said officers responded to reports of gunfire at about 10:22 a.m. and that the incident began as a road-rage encounter on West Orange Blossom Trail before continuing into the store's parking lot. Chak was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to FOX 35 Orlando and WKMG ClickOrlando.
Apopka police said the incident was isolated and that there was no continuing danger to the public. ClickOrlando reported that all suspects were in custody. Police and prosecutors have not announced charges in the case.
Records and charging information remain pending
The State Attorney's Office told WESH that it had no update on the case. WESH also reported that requests for body-camera footage, 911 calls and police reports remained pending. No charges had been announced in that report.

Mother seeks witnesses and video
Suzy Cohen, Chak's mother, has asked anyone who witnessed the confrontation or recorded video in the Home Depot parking lot to contact authorities, WESH reported. Cohen also asked the community to remember her son for his life, not only the circumstances of his death.
