Columbus police reports covering dealerships along Auto Mall Drive off Georgesville Road recorded more than 60 reports of stolen vehicles or license plates since 2023, according to NBC4 WCMH-TV. The station counted 22 reports at Performance Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram Georgesville—the highest total among the dealership addresses it reviewed. The next-highest address had 15 reports.
NBC4 reported that most larceny reports at the Georgesville dealership were from 2023. The station said the dealership’s attorney initially agreed to discuss the figures but stopped responding after several weeks of follow-up. The dealership did not answer NBC4’s questions about its security measures or steps to reduce thefts.
Dan Cain’s truck was among the cases NBC4 covered. After a week without a repair update, Cain went to the dealership. An employee first told him the truck was in the service shop being worked on; the service department later told him it had been stolen from the lot the previous night, the station reported. Columbus police recovered the truck with front-end damage and a broken rear passenger-side window. Cain told NBC4 the dealership’s response was to contact his insurance company.
A separate report from ABC57 described two customers whose cars were stolen while being serviced at Gurley Leep Audi in Mishawaka, Indiana, within a little more than two months. The Rheinhardts told the station that an employee said there were no security cameras covering the back lot.
