Porter Limited Store has popped back up on the corner of Spring and Elizabeth Street in Soho, opening a five-day storefront stocked with bags made in Japan. The temporary shop, run by Yoshida & Co., sits at 21 Spring Street and stays open through September 6, giving New Yorkers less than a week to browse before it closes.

The pop-up is taking place in New York, according to Hypebeast. A September 2025 New York pop-up marked Yoshida & Co.'s 90th anniversary, held at the same Nolita address, as Cool Hunting reported at the time. That first pop-up also introduced a plant-based nylon Tanker line the brand developed with Japanese textile firm Toray.

Inside the 850-square-foot space, which retail agency Parasol Projects operates on the corner of Spring and Elizabeth streets, the shop features original fixtures designed specifically for the New York location. The store showcases three of Yoshida & Co.'s labels together: Porter, the lifestyle-oriented POTR, and the more mature Luggage Label, known as L.L.

What's Actually on the Shelves

The Porter side of the shop includes the Vinil shoulder bag and the Monochrome backpack, while L.L. contributes the Filament Vertical Tote, the True Blue flap shoulder bag, and the Oldnew shoulder bag. POTR rounds out the lineup with nine pieces from its Ride series. The store also stocks the Hello Kitty x Porter range, which includes backpacks and smaller carry pieces, along with the Aurel Schmidt x Porter capsule.

Shoppers can also find items exclusive to select locations, while the pop-up notably centers the Hello Kitty crossover as one of its bigger draws for New York.

A Hand-Bound Book for the Brand's 90th

Also on offer is the Yoshida & Co. 90 Anniversary Book, sold in both a Collectors Edition and a Library Edition.

Yoshida & Co. traces back to 1935, when founder Kichizo Yoshida started the company in Tokyo under the mantra “Heart and Soul in every stitch,” according to Detail Digest. The company created its flagship Porter label in 1962, naming it after hotel porters who carefully carry luggage. Porter was Yoshida & Co.'s first branded venture after the company had manufactured anonymously for other retailers.

Why the Bags Are Still Made Only in Japan

Porter's most recognizable product line, the Tanker series, launched in 1983 with three-layer nylon twill construction and high-visibility Rescue Orange linings borrowed from U.S. Air Force MA-1 flight jackets. In 1984, Yoshida & Co. rolled out the adult-oriented L.L. sub-brand. POTR came later as a lifestyle-focused label aimed at daily commuters.

Rather than move manufacturing overseas, Yoshida & Co. produces all of its products in Japan, working with a domestic network of more than 80 specialized workshops and independent studios, per Detail Digest's earlier reporting. With the storefront closing September 6, it's a narrow window for New York shoppers to see that production philosophy up close before Porter packs up the corner of Spring and Elizabeth streets again.
