A Prince George's County Police officer opened fire during a traffic stop in Bladensburg just minutes before 4 a.m. Sunday, after a driver in a stolen silver Hyundai sedan sped off from officers not once, but twice. The car got away, and police were searching for the vehicle, its driver, and any passengers who may have been inside.
According to DC News Now, officers first tried to pull over the Hyundai, which had been reported stolen, but the driver allegedly fled that initial stop. Officers caught up with the car again at the intersection of Annapolis Road and Edmonston Road, where one officer fired his gun during that second encounter, per Prince George's County Police. FOX 5 DC reports that sequence establishes two distinct attempted stops before the shots were fired.
The Hyundai drove away from the scene after the officer fired, and no officers were hurt during the encounter. In a social media post, the police department said there is no evidence anyone inside the suspect's car was struck, but urged anyone who may have been hit to seek medical care immediately.

Bladensburg Town Hall is at 4229 Edmonston Road, according to town of Bladensburg records. Officials said the stolen car may have had passengers at the time.
