The Snug Family Pub is opening in Tacoma’s Proctor District this week after nearly two years of construction. The family-friendly Irish-American pub at 2717 N. Proctor St. is holding soft-opening hours from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, Sept. 22-24. The owners have not yet announced a grand opening date or regular hours.
Andrea and Paul Evans are behind the project, which has turned the corner building into a two-story pub with more than 3,300 square feet, according to the Tacoma News Tribune. Reservations were already filling as of Monday afternoon, with only early or late slots available; the business recommended booking through Toast for the first few days. The pub had invited guests to reserve a Tuesday preview meal, but had not posted a menu as of Monday.
Proctor’s planning context
The opening comes as the city has been gathering community input on the neighborhood: according to the City of Tacoma, City Council adopted the Proctor Neighborhood Plan in February 2024 after more than 1,800 community engagements.
A Family Building With Decades of History
The Evans family has owned the property for decades. Paul Evans acquired it from Ann Evans in November 2025, continuing a family connection to the building and the neighborhood. The building dates to 1975; earlier News Tribune reporting says its second-floor restaurant space had housed eateries for about 30 years, while the ground floor was a yoga studio for 10 years.
Tuladhara Yoga, the former ground-floor tenant, has relocated to 3519 6th Ave. in Tacoma. Crudo & Cotto, a previous restaurant tenant, had closed before the overhaul. The Evanses also own and operate The Proctor Handyman, a residential-focused contracting company, and undertook the building renovation themselves.
From Beige Facade to Irish-Inspired Interior
The renovation changed the building’s exterior and expanded its deck, with an accessible ramp added. Inside, the pub has dining and lounge areas, along with a heated patio.
The name refers to the “snug,” a partitioned room in traditional Irish pubs, according to earlier News Tribune reporting. Paul Evans has said he had long hoped to open a pub in Tacoma; visits as a child to his mother’s family dairy farm in Ireland helped shape the Irish-American concept.
What's on Tap, and What's Still Unclear
Guinness is on tap. Although the current menu was not posted as of Monday, earlier planning-stage reporting described burgers, sandwiches, four pizzas and Irish dishes such as shepherd’s pie, as well as rattlesnake sausage offered on pizza or folded into pasta. Andrea Evans had said the space needed redesigning because previous restaurants there had struggled to survive.
The pub began hiring in August and started posting social-media updates that month. Its earlier target was a spring 2025 debut, but the reporting reviewed does not explain why the opening shifted to September 2026. For soft-opening reservations, the pub can be reached at 253-224-5460.
