A 38-year-old Punta Gorda woman is facing a second-degree felony charge after Charlotte County detectives say surveillance footage from her estranged husband's home cameras appeared to show her engaging in sexual contact with the family dog. Malia Elizabeth Nummerdor was arrested in Port Charlotte on Tuesday and booked into the Charlotte County Jail, where bond was set at $35,000.
The case began on September 11, when detectives learned of public Facebook posts from Nummerdor's estranged husband alleging that surveillance footage showed sexual activity with the family dog, according to WINK News. Detectives said the surveillance footage showed her engaging in sexual contact with a dog, and investigators reviewed screenshots and files that showed a woman identified as Nummerdor positioned with the dog in a manner the detective described as consistent with sexual activity.
The husband, Erik Nummerdor, told detectives he had installed two surveillance cameras while trying to figure out who was taking money from a coin container, according to WENG Radio. He provided investigators with screenshots and a laptop containing the surveillance files, the station reported, which detectives then reviewed as part of their probe.
Woman Confirms Identity but Denies Sexual Contact
When questioned, Nummerdor identified herself in the room shown in the video and acknowledged the dog was hers but denied engaging in sexual conduct, per the same account from WINK News. According to WKRC, investigators had obtained sworn statements and digital evidence from the home surveillance system before confronting her, and she confirmed she was the person shown in the footage while maintaining that nothing sexual occurred.
Nummerdor said she wanted to leave and requested an attorney, at which point investigators took her into custody, the article notes. She was subsequently charged with sexual activity involving animals, a second-degree felony under Florida law, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, which also confirmed she was held at the Charlotte County Jail with bond set at $35,000. In Pensacola, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrested 25-year-old Bailey Hurst on charges including sexual activity involving animals alongside child sexual abuse material and communication-device offenses, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. That investigation began in June after agents received a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and a search warrant executed at Hurst's residence in late July led to the seizure of multiple electronic devices; he was held without bond pending his first appearance, with the case set for prosecution by the Office of the State Attorney for Florida's First Judicial Circuit.
