Pyx Health acquired FarmboxRx in June 2025 in a transaction backed by a $47.5 million investment from S2G Investments in strategic partnership with TT Capital Partners, according to Pyx Health and Healthcare Innovation. The available deal details identify the investors but do not establish a financial adviser or indicate that $47.5 million was the purchase price.

FarmboxRx connected food delivery with health-plan engagement

FarmboxRx supplied produce boxes through health plans and used them to help insurers engage members and address preventive-care gaps. Before the acquisition, the company had more than 90 national health-plan partners and reported revenue estimates ranging from nearly $35 million to $55 million annually, according to Fierce Healthcare.

One example came in 2024, when FarmboxRx partnered with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee to send condition-specific produce boxes to members who completed required preventive medical screenings, Healthcare Innovation reported.

Medicare Advantage rules expanded the relevant benefit category

FarmboxRx’s health-plan model developed alongside a change in Medicare Advantage benefit rules. The Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018 authorized plans to offer certain nonmedical Special Supplemental Benefits for the Chronically Ill, including fresh produce boxes beginning in plan year 2020, according to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services guidance.

By 2023, nearly 40% of Medicare Advantage plans offered expanded benefits intended to address members’ nonmedical social needs, according to ATI Advisory. As that health-plan opportunity developed, FarmboxRx shifted during the pandemic from direct-to-consumer marketing to a business-to-business model, according to Business Insider.

The broader food-insecurity context

The scale of the need extends beyond health-plan programs. An estimated 1.2 million New York City residents, or 14.6% of the city’s population, were food insecure, according to the NYC Council Data Team, citing the NYC Mayor’s Office of Food Policy’s annual 2022 Food Metrics Annual Report. That cited estimate establishes the prevalence of food insecurity but does not provide a breakdown of which groups were most affected.

The acquisition combines nutrition delivery with member support

Pyx Health said the combination would pair its companionship and loneliness-intervention tools with FarmboxRx’s nutrition delivery. The companies aimed to address nonmedical drivers of health through one platform, according to details reported by Healthcare Innovation.

After the sale, FarmboxRx founder Ashley Tyrner-Dolce joined Boston-based HLM Investment Partners as an investor or mentor, according to HLM Investment Partners. The firm specializes in healthcare technology and services investments.
