New York is getting a cool Saturday with gusty northeast winds. The bigger weather story arrives Sunday. The forecast called for widespread rain in the New York City area Sunday into Sunday night, with the bulk of the rain tapering off by early Monday.
Saturday Offers A Brief Weather Break
Saturday will be partly sunny with a high near 71, though temperatures may cool during the afternoon. North-to-northeast winds around 10 knots early should veer toward east to southeast later and diminish late, but daytime rain is not expected.
Beachgoers and boaters should still use caution: the National Weather Service lists a Small Craft Advisory through noon Saturday for ocean waters, along with a moderate rip-current risk and ocean swells near 3 to 4 feet.
Sunday Brings The Soaking
Rain is expected Sunday. Rain may continue Sunday night, along with a slight chance of thunderstorms.
Forecasters say the flood threat has eased compared with earlier projections. Sunday’s temperatures should cool during the day.
Cooler, Windier Weather Follows
Monday may start with a few showers before 8 a.m., followed by mostly cloudy skies and a high near 67. From Tuesday through Friday, temperatures are expected to remain below seasonal norms, with periodic showers and persistent northeast winds.
The weather service says gusts of 30 to 40 mph are possible during the middle and latter part of next week. If strong onshore winds persist, minor to moderate coastal flooding and shoreline impacts could develop around high tide.
