Red Hot Chili Peppers and Dave Grohl are teaming up to headline a 25th-anniversary benefit concert for the Silverlake Conservatory of Music at the Hollywood Palladium on Saturday, October 17, 2026. Vince Staples and Marc Maron round out the bill, with proceeds supporting the Los Feliz nonprofit's music education programs, which serve more than 1,000 students each week.
The show marks a notable change in how the conservatory raises money. As reported by the Los Angeles Daily News, tickets for the Palladium concert go on presale Thursday, September 24, before opening to general sale at 10 a.m. Friday, September 25, through Ticketmaster. That structure is a departure from the conservatory's usual private, high-dollar galas — a shift that, according to Blabbermouth, makes the fundraiser accessible to general ticket buyers rather than the annual private benefit dinner. VIP packages and sponsorship opportunities will also be available, the Daily News reports.
The Palladium's Art Deco hall on Sunset Boulevard can hold roughly 3,700 to 4,000 people, according to Giggster, giving the conservatory a much larger public footprint than the intimate dinners it has historically relied on. The Daily News reports the concert is expected to raise about $1.5 million for conservatory programming.
A School Born From Budget Cuts
The conservatory traces its origins to Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, who co-founded the school in 2001 alongside Keith “Tree” Barry and Peter Weiss, per the Daily News. The idea took shape after Flea visited Fairfax High School, his alma mater, and found the band room unused, with instruments locked up or inaccessible, according to the Beverly Press.
What started as a response to one school's lost funding has grown into a fixture of Los Feliz. In 2016, the nonprofit moved from Sunset Junction into its Hollywood Boulevard home at 4652 Hollywood Boulevard, redesigned by architect Barbara Bestor to house 13 lesson studios and a recital space, the Beverly Press notes. Today the conservatory offers private lessons, ensembles and choir programs, and its scholarship program provides more than 200 students with free lessons, instruments, supplies and ensemble classes, per the Daily News.
A Track Record of Star-Studded Fundraisers
This is not the first time the conservatory has leaned on rock royalty to fill its coffers. Past benefit concerts have featured Beck, Neil Young, Eddie Vedder, Patti Smith, Bruno Mars and Red Hot Chili Peppers, according to the Daily News. On August 24, 2011, a Hullabaloo concert featuring the Chili Peppers, Vedder and Charlie Haden at Club Nokia raised $1 million for the school, per Chaoszine.
The conservatory's fundraisers have also intersected with Red Hot Chili Peppers history. The band's November 2, 2019 benefit show with Vedder turned out to be guitarist Josh Klinghoffer's final live performance with the group, according to MusicRadar. Flea has also used his own music to fund the school directly: in July 2012 he released his debut solo EP, “Helen Burns,” through the conservatory's website, with guest appearances from Patti Smith and the conservatory's choir, according to Consequence.
Students have returned the favor. In September 2025, a group performing as the Silverlake Conservatory of Music All-Stars released a four-track EP titled “Our Loving Tribute to Red Hot Chili Peppers,” executive produced by Flea and Hipgnosis Songs founder Merck Mercuriadis, MusicRadar reports.
Why The Timing Matters
The Palladium show lands as public arts funding in Los Angeles schools remains under legal strain. A May 2025 lawsuit alleged that the Los Angeles Unified School District improperly used state Proposition 28 arts money to plug existing budget holes instead of expanding student instruction, according to Legal Newsline. That dispute underscores the same gap in public school music funding that pushed Flea to start the conservatory in Fairfax's shadow more than two decades ago.
Flea's own musical output has kept branching out in the months leading up to the benefit. He released his debut solo jazz album, “Honora,” in March 2026 and joined Erykah Badu and Anderson .Paak for a trumpet performance at the Hollywood Bowl in September, according to Hoodline's earlier coverage.
