Sachem North beat William Floyd 35-13 on Friday. Sachem North quarterback Luke LaRocca completed 13 of 15 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns, according to Newsday.
The New York Post reported that Sachem North students in the stands displayed sexually suggestive posters aimed at William Floyd players’ girlfriends. The Post said the posters included the girls’ names and faces and used football-related sexual references. Parents at the game told the outlet they wanted school officials to take action.
The Post also reported that people at the game said administrators did not reprimand the students or direct them to remove the posters. Paul Horst, who has relatives playing for William Floyd, told the outlet that numerous girls were targeted.
Rules governing spectators
Section XI’s spectator guidelines call for fans to avoid taunting, abusive language, inflammatory remarks and disrespectful signs or behavior. The guidelines say site personnel should warn violators and remove them if the conduct continues, according to Section XI Athletics.
Reported confrontation
According to the New York Post, a girl whose image appeared on one of the posters approached the students and asked them to take it down. A relative alleged that one of the boys spit on her, and the Post reported that video shared by a relative and reviewed by the outlet showed the two involved in a physical scuffle.
