Richmond shoppers looking to dress up as fairies, knights or wizards this weekend have a new reason to dig out a costume. A Renaissance-themed pop-up artisan market called the Ren Faire Market will take over Shop Made in VA – Richmond on Saturday, September 19, running from noon to 5 p.m. at 3348 West Moore St.
The event is expected to feature more than 50 local makers, according to WRIC ABC 8News. Shoppers can browse handmade goods from that sizable lineup of vendors while soaking in medieval-inspired music and taking part in interactive workshops woven throughout the afternoon.
Costumes Encouraged, Fantasy Optional
Organizers are urging attendees to lean into the theme by dressing as a fairy, knight, royal, rogue, wizard or other magical character, the station reports. It is not a strict requirement, but the costume call fits a market built around Renaissance fair aesthetics rather than a typical craft show.
Beyond the vendor booths, the market promises hands-on fun for those who want to get in on the action themselves. Per thecraftmap.com, attendees can get flash tattoos, build fairy terrariums and take part in free DIY activations during the event.

The Ren Faire Market is hosted in partnership with PlantHouse and RVA Collective, the same report notes. Shop Made in VA has previously served as a venue for pop-up markets in Richmond, and this latest event blends that local-maker focus with a costumed, fantasy-tinged twist.
Organizers have also built in a contingency for bad weather. Should severe weather force a cancellation, vendors will receive credit toward a future market rather than losing their spot altogether, according to the station's report.
