The event is organized in partnership with Ajax, Grupo Pachuca, and Corinthians International Sports Academy, according to KABB. The stakes are considerable: the Ajax Future Cup is one of Europe's premier U-17 youth soccer tournaments, organized annually by AFC Ajax, as detailed by Ticketón. The eight-team field is loaded by any measure. The tournament splits the field into two groups. Group A pits River Plate, Cerro Porteño, Atlético Nacional, and host club The Dreams FC against one another, while Group B brings together Corinthians, Defensor Sporting, Pachuca, and the Chile U-17 National Team, according to Brazilian outlet Central do Timão. Host club The Dreams FC isn't just a local footnote in this international lineup. This isn't the first time UTSA Park West has hosted marquee international soccer. Back in April, the complex hosted a closed-door exhibition match between the El Salvador Men's National Team and The Dreams FC, part of an initiative by the Salvadoran Football Federation to track U.S.-based talent, Infobae reported at the time. That match served as an early signal that San Antonio's Park West facility had the pull to host serious international soccer programs.
Local players got their own shot at the spotlight this past summer. Organizers held open tryouts in Leon Valley in August for players born in 2010 and 2011, offering full scholarships and a chance to compete on the Dreams Future Cup roster, according to a post from SA Corinthians FC. The tryouts gave San Antonio-area youth athletes a direct path to sharing the pitch with clubs like River Plate and Corinthians.
Facilities Built for the Occasion
The venue itself is part of the story. UTSA Park West features a 1,000-seat soccer stadium with a Tifway 419 hybrid Bermuda grass pitch, along with the $8 million, 14,325-square-foot Park West Fieldhouse that opened in July 2023, according to UTSA Today. The complex was built through a long-standing public partnership between UTSA and Bexar County.
There's history riding on this tournament too. Corinthians previously competed in the 2014 Ajax Future Cup in the Netherlands, finishing seventh, while Belgian club RSC Anderlecht won the 2024 edition by defeating Real Madrid 2-0 in the final, per Meu Timão. That track record underscores just how competitive the path to Amsterdam can be for whichever club claims the Dreams Future Cup title.
Tournament passes are available through Ticketón at a flat rate of $66.50, granting spectators access to either a single day or the entire three-day competition.
