A Roseville retail plaza has a memorably strange past.
Full Swing is the official simulator brand of the PGA Tour and TGL, the Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy-backed primetime indoor league, according to the outlet.
A Plaza With a Wild History
The location's backstory has an unusual footnote. On Wednesday morning, October 1, 2014, emergency personnel responded to TJ Maxx Plaza after a 4-foot Nile crocodile escaped from a container dropped off outside The Serpentarium and roamed the shopping center parking lot, according to ABC10. Animal control officers lassoed the abandoned reptile, placed it in a cage, and transferred it to state wildlife officials, the station reported.
The plaza itself sits at the intersection of Douglas Boulevard and Rocky Ridge Drive in East Roseville, a 126,784-square-foot retail center that sees approximately 40,664 vehicles pass daily, according to a LoopNet listing. The center serves East Roseville and Granite Bay near major retail corridors, making it a strategically visible spot for the new venue.
How Membership and Access Will Work
Members will have around-the-clock simulator access. The Back Nine Golf operates without staff required to open the door.
Part of a Fast-Growing Simulator Chain
The Back Nine Golf traces its concept to St. George, Utah, in 2020, before it officially launched franchise operations in 2022, according to prior Hoodline reporting. The chain has more than 250 open or announced locations. That marks a sharp jump from the roughly 35 open venues the brand had in mid-2025, when Hoodline reported the company had grown to more than 170 franchise units sold across 29 states, with startup costs for franchisees typically ranging from $208,117 to $438,117.
The chain's rapid rollout tracks with a broader shift in the golf industry. Off-course activities like simulators and driving ranges accounted for nearly 19 million exclusive participants in 2025 out of a record 48.1 million total U.S. golfers, according to National Golf Foundation data reported by the National Golf Course Owners Association.
Full Swing's High-Profile Backing
The hardware underpinning Back Nine Golf's bays carries some notable financial weight. Versant Media Group agreed to acquire Full Swing in a $530 million cash deal, a company backed by investor Tiger Woods since 2015, according to SGB Media. Full Swing also serves as the official technology partner for TGL, where the league's virtual holes are projected on a 53-foot-tall screen for the televised league co-founded by Woods and McIlroy, according to TGL Golf.
Back Nine Golf offers indoor golf around the clock with simulators for beginners and avid golfers seeking practice and improvement. The Roseville opening will add another option to the local golf market. How a fully automated, unstaffed model competes against heavily staffed rivals remains to be seen once the doors open.
