San Antonio television personalities Jordan Elder and Matt Roy are expecting their first child, the couple announced by posting ultrasound images and a couples photoshoot on Instagram. Elder shared that her family with Roy and their dog, Dexter, would be growing by one, with a baby onesie in the photos reading “see you in March.”
Elder, who works as an investigative reporter and fill-in anchor for News 4 and KABB, wrote on Instagram that “March Madness is about to get a whole new meaning,” a nod to the couple's shared roots in sports and news broadcasting, according to MySA. She also wrote, “Baby Roy, we're so excited to meet you.”
The pregnancy announcement caps a winding personal and professional journey for the pair. Elder and Roy met at Arizona State University, started dating in 2019, and got engaged in 2021 before marrying in December 2022 in Missouri, hosting roughly 130 guests shortly after relocating to San Antonio. The couple spent almost two years planning their wedding before it finally took place.
A Newsroom Romance Built Around Mismatched Schedules
Both Elder and Roy arrived at News 4 and KABB in 2022, and the two said planning for a family and childcare proved difficult while both worked in television news. Roy said both he and Elder worked inconsistent news schedules, a challenge that ultimately factored into his decision to step away from broadcast journalism last October after nearly four years as a sports and news reporter for the Sinclair-owned stations.
Elder recalled knowing Roy was her husband the moment he walked into a party, and Roy has said he was the one who first said “I love you” in their relationship. Roy has said his dream had changed since leaving the newsroom, adding that his new dream was to be the best dad, husband and man he could be.
From Sports Anchor to Corporate Communications
Roy, a former sports reporter and anchor, left the news industry in October 2025 and became a media and communications associate at Victory Capital, an investment firm based in the La Cantera area of San Antonio. Victory Capital relocated its headquarters from Cleveland, Ohio, to La Cantera in late 2019 following an $850 million acquisition of USAA's asset management business, according to the San Antonio Report.
The firm also serves as an investment partner for the San Antonio Spurs. In October 2023, Victory Capital and Spurs Sports & Entertainment celebrated the grand opening of the 134,000-square-foot Victory Capital Performance Center at The Rock at La Cantera under a multi-year naming rights and investment partnership, according to a release cited by Community Impact.
Before his move into corporate communications, Roy played college football at College of the Desert in California and at Fort Lewis College in Colorado, later completing a master's degree in sports journalism at Arizona State University in 2019, according to reporting from mikemcguff.com. Before Roy left broadcast news, the couple marked a notable professional moment when they co-anchored a morning news broadcast together for the first time on KABB FOX San Antonio in March 2025. Elder and Roy's newsroom, WOAI-TV and KABB, operates as a local station duopoly under Hunt Valley, Maryland-based Sinclair Broadcast Group, which frequently coordinates staffing and transfers across its stations nationwide.
Elder's investigative reporting has followed her across markets. Before moving to Texas, she spent nearly two years at sister station WICS/WRSP in Springfield, Illinois, where her reporting on local child welfare and vacant properties prompted city policy changes regarding abandoned housing tracking. Now, with a baby due in March, Elder and Roy's next chapter unfolds in San Antonio, where their television careers first brought them together as colleagues and, eventually, as a family.
