Sandough, the Melrose Avenue spot known for folding an entire pizza into sandwich form, is expanding beyond Hollywood with two new Southern California locations planned in Burbank and Glendale. The Burbank restaurant is slated to open at 4007 W. Riverside Drive in mid-November, with the Glendale location following at 126 S. Brand Boulevard toward the end of 2026, expected sometime in late November or early December.
According to WhatNow Los Angeles, the Burbank location will replace the former Smashed AF Burgers space, while the Glendale spot is set to take over the former Mediterranean Delight location. Per the outlet, the Burbank restaurant is slated to open before its Glendale counterpart, giving Sandough its first true multi-location footprint since launching at 7276 Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, where the concept still offers dine-in, takeout, delivery, and catering.
Sandough is owned by Hakob Badalyan, per the same account, and has built a following for a menu that reimagines pizza as sandwich. Instead of a crust and toppings served flat, the kitchen uses slow-fermented pizza dough as the bread itself, then fills it with Italian-inspired ingredients before finishing everything in the oven, according to The Infatuation, which describes the result simply as “an entire pizza folded into a sandwich.”
What's Actually Inside the Dough
The menu spans options like chicken parm, meatball, pastrami, chicken calabrese, and a sandwich called the Verde, alongside salads, sides, drinks, and sauces. The Infatuation highlights options stuffed with garlicky roasted mushrooms and fontina, or thick-cut hot pastrami and dijonnaise, giving a sense of the range on offer beyond the classic red-sauce combinations.
Specific builds reflect that same Italian leaning: the Parma includes 18-month-aged prosciutto di Parma, stracciatella, heirloom tomato, and wild arugula, while the Mortadella brings parmigiano ricotta crema and pistachio into the mix, and the Funghi layers roasted mushrooms, confit garlic, and fontina. A Yahoo News segment summed up the pitch simply: “Sandough combines pizza and sandwiches to create the best of both worlds.”
The Real Estate Behind the Expansion
Listing details for the Burbank site describe it as a second-generation café/restaurant space of roughly 1,475 square feet, complete with a full kitchen, an ADA bathroom, and a grease trap already in place, according to URBANLIME Real Estate. The listing calls it “a rare opportunity,” and notes the location comes with favorable rents secured through December 2028.
The Riverside Drive block also puts Sandough in the middle of an active dining strip, with neighbors including Alfred Coffee, SweetFin, Jinya Ramen, Ghindi Thai, and Don Cuco's Mexican, per the listing. Over in Glendale, the Glendale Marketplace has already listed Sandough as coming soon, describing the concept's hand-crafted, 48-hour fermented dough and Italian-inspired flavors as bringing together “LA creativity” with old-world technique.
Between the two builds, Sandough's expansion marks its first real test of whether the pizza-sandwich format can travel beyond its original Hollywood base. With a Burbank opening targeted for mid-November and Glendale expected to follow within weeks, Southern California diners won't have to wait long to find out.
