The long-vacant Sears building at Deerbrook Mall in Humble is on track to reopen this fall as Score Entertainment, a sprawling indoor attraction with go-karts, bowling, laser tag and ax throwing. Score Entertainment announced its projected fall opening in a Facebook post on Sept. 17, moving away from earlier timelines that had pointed to Thanksgiving or summer 2026.
A New Timeline After Months of Shifting Dates
The fall projection is the project's latest opening estimate. Community Impact reported the newer fall projection, and Score Entertainment's Sept. 17 Facebook post is the most recent public statement pointing toward a fall opening.
Construction on the project was scheduled to begin June 1, 2025, and wrap up by summer 2026, according to Chron.com. The venue will occupy the space that previously housed Sears at Deerbrook Mall, located at 20131 US-59 North (also referenced as 20131 Hwy. 59) in Humble.
Eight Attractions Under One Roof
The planned venue will feature bowling, laser tag, go-karting and a trampoline park. It will also include arcade games and mini golf. The Community Impact report additionally lists ax throwing and golf, pickleball and racing simulators among the planned offerings.
Food and drink will be part of the draw as well. The venue is set to include two full-service bars and a restaurant offering Rudy's Barbecue, per Score Entertainment's own site. Community Impact's earlier reporting described a restaurant and two full-service bars with more than 15 beers on tap.
Project Size and Cost Estimates Vary
Community Impact described the project as roughly 155,000 square feet and cited a $25 million estimate. Score Entertainment's own website instead describes the venue as a 155,000-square-foot indoor entertainment complex. The dossier does not explain the discrepancy between the two figures, and both are presented here as reported.
The project fits into a broader pattern of former Sears stores being repurposed across the Houston area, as Chron.com has noted. Round1 recently opened a Japanese-inspired arcade facility at Deerbrook Mall and also plans a 107,000-square-foot venue inside the former Sears space at Willowbrook Mall, according to Secret Houston. Score Entertainment's Deerbrook project is one of several efforts breathing new life into the department store chain's shuttered footprints in Greater Houston.
