A second Ross Dress for Less is coming to Napa, and it's set to open its doors on October 10 inside the South Napa Marketplace, right next to Target. The new store will fill a space formerly occupied by Office Depot, giving the off-price retailer a ready-made building instead of a from-scratch construction project.
The opening was reported by the Napa Valley Register, which noted that Office Depot formerly operated in the suite next to Target before its closure. This will mark Napa's second Ross location, adding to the store that has long operated at 3331 Jefferson Street in North Napa, which served as the city's only Ross outpost prior to this year.
The new store lands inside a shopping hub that already draws heavy traffic. South Napa Marketplace sits along one of the busiest commercial corridors in the city.
A Corporate Growth Streak Rolls Into Napa
The Napa opening isn't an isolated move — Ross Stores, Inc. is expanding nationally.
For fiscal 2026, Ross projected roughly 110 new store launches nationwide — 85 Ross Dress for Less locations and 25 dd's DISCOUNTS stores — representing about 5% annual unit growth, according to the same PR Newswire release. The pace has already been brisk: in June and July 2026 alone, the chain opened 47 new stores, including 35 Ross Dress for Less and 12 dd's DISCOUNTS locations.
Ross Stores continues to operate Ross Dress for Less locations as it expands its retail business.
Backfilling Big-Box Vacancies Instead of Building New
The Napa project illustrates Ross Stores' use of an existing retail space. The new store will occupy the former Office Depot space rather than requiring a new construction project.

Plaza Has Seen Its Share of Drama Lately
The South Napa Marketplace has had a notable few weeks. Last month, a 200-gallon commercial propane tank behind the adjacent Target store overheated and caught fire, forcing a temporary store evacuation before venting safely. Emergency responders temporarily blocked nearby Gasser Drive while the tank's pressure relief valve burned off excess gas. The new Ross store is also planned for the center.
Still, the incident hasn't slowed plans for the new arrival. With Target, Raley's, and Home Depot already drawing steady foot traffic to the shopping center, Ross is betting that shoppers browsing for discounted apparel will be an easy sell just steps from the center's existing anchors.
