A crash on Mount Royal Boulevard in Shaler Township left at least three vehicles damaged and one person hospitalized on Sunday, after firefighters had to cut the victim free from the wreckage. Emergency crews swarmed the 2000 block of the busy roadway around 12:25 p.m., and the road was shut down for hours while crews worked to clear the mess, as reported by WPXI.
Driver Freed From Wreckage, Rushed to Hospital
Responders arriving at the scene found at least three damaged vehicles in the roadway, according to WPXI. One person had to be rescued from one of the vehicles, firefighters said, and medics took that person to the hospital.
The extent of that person's injuries has not been disclosed, and no other injuries have been reported. The station's report does not say what caused the crash, and it remains unclear whether any citations or charges resulted from the incident.
Mount Royal Boulevard Shut Down for Cleanup
Mount Royal Boulevard was closed while crews worked to clear the crash scene, forcing traffic to find alternate routes through the township for a stretch of the afternoon. It is not known when the roadway reopened to traffic, per the same account.
Emergency crews were called to the scene per the Bauerstown Volunteer Fire Department, which also shared photos of the crash scene on social media. No further details on the department's post were made available.
