A shooting outside the In-N-Out Burger near Cortaro Road and Arizona Pavilions in Marana left one person hospitalized Monday afternoon, with police detaining a suspect. The victim's injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

According to the Marana Police Department, officers responded to the scene Monday afternoon and took a suspect into custody following the shooting. The injured person was taken to a local hospital, and per KOLD News 13, the victim's wounds were not considered life-threatening.

Police confirmed there was no ongoing threat to the public once the suspect was detained, as reported by KVOA.

A Retail Hub With a History of Violence

The In-N-Out sits at 8180 N. Cortaro Road inside the Arizona Pavilions shopping center, a dense retail corridor positioned directly off Interstate 10's Exit 246, according to Tierra Antigua Realty.

This is not the first time violence has erupted at the shopping center. In April 2021, a non-fatal shooting broke out outside the Ross store at Arizona Pavilions following an argument over a parking spot, a case the Pima County Attorney's Office ultimately declined to prosecute, per the Tucson Weekly. And in July 2017, a 40-year-old man was shot and killed in a nearby Walmart parking lot after a road-rage dispute that began at Cortaro Road spilled into the lot, with a 26-year-old driver later charged with felony manslaughter, according to the Arizona Daily Star.

Second Arizona In-N-Out Incident in a Week

Monday's shooting also marks the second time gunfire has broken out at an Arizona In-N-Out location within roughly a week. Eight days earlier, on September 20, a man was struck by bullet fragments during a fight involving a firearm outside an In-N-Out in Tempe, with police there searching for a suspect who fled after a handgun discharged during the physical struggle, FOX 10 Phoenix reported. Hoodline previously covered that fight over a gun outside Tempe In-N-Out.

Marana police are leading the investigation into the shooting. The identities of the suspect and victim, what triggered the confrontation, and whether formal charges will be filed by the Pima County Attorney's Office remain unresolved as the investigation continues.
