Las Vegas is heading into a serious late-summer heat surge, with clear skies and temperatures climbing from 99 degrees Tuesday to 107 by Thursday. Around daybreak Tuesday, the North Las Vegas reporting station was clear and near 73 degrees, but the valley will heat up quickly under mostly sunny skies.
Thursday Brings The Peak Heat
The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the Las Vegas Valley and surrounding areas. Highs could reach 105 to 110 degrees across the valley, with the local forecast calling for 107 and an overnight low around 86.
Wednesday will already feel oppressive, with a forecast high of 104, and there is little chance of rain to provide relief. The forecast remains sunny and dry through the week, with precipitation chances staying near zero in Las Vegas.
Hot Weather Gives Way To Stronger Winds
Friday should reach about 105 degrees before winds become more noticeable, followed by a high near 101 Saturday. Local winds could run 15 to 20 mph Friday and Saturday, while broader parts of the region may see gusts between 25 and 35 mph, with stronger gusts possible in the western Mojave Desert.
Temperatures ease slightly Sunday and Monday, but the break is relative: highs are still expected near 98 and 97 degrees. Overnight lows finally dip into the upper 70s by Sunday night, offering somewhat better relief than the mid-80s expected Thursday through Friday.
Heat Safety Takes Priority
Residents should plan strenuous outdoor activity for the early morning or evening, drink plenty of water, and use air conditioning or another cool indoor space during the afternoon. The City of Las Vegas also advises checking on older neighbors and never leaving children or pets in parked vehicles, where temperatures can become deadly within minutes.
