A 25-year-old Six Mile man remained in the Oconee County Detention Center Wednesday after deputies arrested him on a charge of criminal sexual conduct with a minor in the second degree. Christian Taylor Moon was booked and was awaiting a bond hearing, according to the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office.
What the warrant alleges
The warrant alleges that the offense occurred Aug. 14 in Fair Play and involved sexual battery by placing a hand under an article of clothing worn by a child. The sheriff’s office said investigators opened their inquiry Sept. 2 before obtaining the warrant after gathering evidence and consulting with a judge. The allegations have not been adjudicated.
Officials said the investigation remains active and that they will not release information that could identify the child. No additional potential charges or evidence were disclosed in the public account, and no statement from Moon, a lawyer for him or prosecutors was included.
County child-welfare data provides limited context
Separate South Carolina Department of Social Services data lists eight substantiated sexual-abuse maltreatments in Oconee County during state fiscal year 2024-2025. The South Carolina Judicial Branch says defendants charged with crimes not triable by a magistrate must be brought before a magistrate and notified of the right to request a preliminary hearing. If requested, that hearing considers whether sufficient evidence exists to warrant detention and trial, according to Rule 2. The rule does not establish whether Moon has requested a preliminary hearing.

WYFF News 4 reported that Andrew Carter Holbrooks was arrested and booked in Oconee County on Friday, July 10, on two second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor charges after an alleged incident near Walhalla. The separate case shows that a similar charge has recently been reported in the county, but one comparison does not establish how frequently such arrests or prosecutions occur or whether there is an increasing trend.
