A fight at the pool of a Southside Jacksonville apartment complex ended with one suspect barricaded in a bedroom, a self-inflicted wound, and a trip to the hospital, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. A second person allegedly grabbed an officer during the chaotic response, though no officers were hurt.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, officers were called to Ciel Luxury Apartments at around 8 p.m. Sunday after a battery was reported at the Southside complex's pool, as reported by Action News Jax. The complex, tucked in Southside Jacksonville near St. Johns Town Center, advertises a resort-style pool with a sun deck, per Ciel Luxury Apartments' own website.
When officers arrived, they found several people involved in the fight, and JSO reported that another individual connected to the altercation was located at a nearby apartment unit within the complex. One suspect began resisting during an arrest attempt before fleeing into a bedroom and barricading himself inside as officers tried to make contact.
Barricade Ends After K-9 Officer Arrives
A K-9 officer was called to the apartment to help resolve the standoff, and the barricaded suspect ultimately came out willingly after hearing the dog, the station's report notes.
Officers observed the suspect's self-inflicted wound upon his exit from the bedroom, according to JSO. Officers provided medical aid until paramedics arrived on scene, and paramedics then transported the suspect to a hospital, per the same account.
Second Suspect Accused Of Grabbing Officer
JSO also said a second suspect grabbed an officer during the incident, though the department confirmed no officers were injured in the encounter. Details on the condition of either suspect, their identities, or what specifically triggered the poolside fight have not been released.
The sheriff's office is withholding the names and identifying information of the officers involved, citing Marsy's Law as the basis for that decision.
