Power Electronics says its northwest Houston campus will eventually create more than 400 local jobs. The Spain-based electronics manufacturer broke ground Thursday at 9220 Fairbanks North Houston Road on the 53-acre project, which it describes as its largest U.S. investment in inverter manufacturing capacity.
According to KHOU, the planned campus will include two buildings totaling 850,000 square feet. One structure, at 150,000 square feet, is designed to house offices, research and development, and electronics manufacturing. The second, a much larger 700,000-square-foot facility, is earmarked for manufacturing and logistics operations.
What the Campus Is Meant to Deliver
Power Electronics projects that the completed site will have annual production capacity of 35 gigawatts. The company also expects the campus to create more than 400 jobs in the Houston area; both figures are projections, not reported outcomes.
Per the company, the buildout is intended to expand its domestic production capacity and increase its U.S.-based research, engineering and manufacturing capabilities. Power Electronics has also said the campus will bring manufacturing and technical capabilities closer to its American customers and strengthen its supply chains.
