Beacon, a speakeasy-style cocktail lounge above Jetty Bar & Grill in Long Beach's West End, has opened with a low-lit setting and a cocktail-focused menu. Its entrance is tucked away near a nightclub, but the venue describes itself as a lounge for guests aged 30 and up.
According to Newsday, Beacon is at Jetty Bar & Grill, 832 W. Beech St. Guests enter through a concealed doorway near the nightclub and follow a mural-lined hallway to the lounge. Newsday describes it as a 30-and-up spot centered on cocktails and martinis.
West Beech Street’s nightlife setting
A 2018 City of Long Beach comprehensive-plan update described West Beech Street’s commercial strip as a nightlife center, with restaurants, bars and retail catering to seasonal visitors. A separate Long Beach Zoning Board of Appeals decision dated July 25, 2024, granted with conditions a renewal variance for a new bar at 945 West Beech Street. That is a different address from Beacon’s reported location, so the decision does not establish the zoning or operating conditions that apply to Beacon.
Who's Behind the Bar
Alexandra Howley leads Beacon's drinks program, bringing experience from her previous work at Felicia, the outlet reports. She works alongside John Rugolsky, Chris Fiumara, John Gallagher and Darren Siff to run the operation, per the same account.
Howley told the outlet that the goal was to give Long Beach something more immersive than the typical bar scene, saying the team wanted to move people “over sticky floors and booming DJs.” She added that Beacon is intended specifically for people aged 30 and up, the report notes.
Fourteen Cocktails and a Build-Your-Own Martini Bar
Beacon's menu includes 14 cocktails and a build-your-own dirty martini. Guests can choose a spirit and brine, then select how dirty they want the drink, according to Newsday.
One featured martini, priced at $18, combines olive and pepperoncini brines with chili oil and a goat cheese-stuffed olive, the report says.
Food, Prices and When to Go
The menu also includes the $17 Light Lunch cocktail, tartar dippers for $23 and diver scallops for $39, according to Newsday.
The kitchen runs from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, stretching to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, per the report. The bar itself stays open until around 11 p.m. most nights of the week, but keeps pouring until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
