A driver died overnight after a speeding car flipped and threw them from the vehicle on Park Street North in St. Petersburg, according to police. The crash happened around 12:05 a.m. Sunday near 33rd Avenue North, and the victim's identity had not been released as the investigation remained open.
Police said a silver Kia Spectra was traveling north on Park Street North at an excessive rate of speed when the driver attempted to change lanes, lost control, and left the roadway, according to a report from the Tampa Free Press. The car reportedly struck a speed-limit sign and a utility pole, then flipped over and struck a tree and a telecom box before coming to a stop.
The driver was thrown from the car during the crash and died at the scene, police said, per the same report. No further details on the driver's identity, age, or any citations tied to the wreck have been released, and the investigation into the crash remains open.
A Familiar Stretch of Road
Park Street North has seen other serious wrecks in recent memory. In June 2025, a teen motorcyclist identified as Mason Derks was killed on Park Street North when an SUV turning from 28th Avenue North collided with him, according to Rebein Law.
The corridor has also been the site of other incidents involving law enforcement vehicles. A Pinellas County deputy was injured in a crash at the intersection of Tyrone Boulevard North and Park Street North, with no one else hurt in that wreck, according to WTSP. Separately, a 2018 crash near Park Street North involved a Pinellas County Sheriff's Office vehicle and a Toyota Sienna, as reported by St. Pete, FL Patch.
For now, the overnight crash remains under investigation, and authorities have not said whether the driver will be identified publicly or what, if any, further findings the probe may produce.
