A 24-year-old Spring Valley man is facing a felony charge after police say he stabbed his stepbrother in the face and neck during a domestic dispute at a Rosehill Oval home, then fled the scene before detectives tracked him down nearly a week later.
According to Newport Dispatch, Spring Valley Police officers responded to 5 Rosehill Oval at approximately 7:11 p.m. on Sept. 3 for a reported stabbing and found an adult male victim suffering from stab wounds to his face. Investigators say the victim was stabbed by his stepbrother, later identified as Kashief Kobe Hall, who fled before officers arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital, and his injuries were described as non-life-threatening, per the same outlet's report.
News 12 Westchester, citing its own reporting shortly after officers first responded, added that the 39-year-old victim suffered stab wounds to both his neck and face — details that expand on the injuries described elsewhere. Hall was not taken into custody immediately; Spring Valley detectives arrested him on Sept. 9, six days after the alleged attack, the station's report and Newport Dispatch's account both indicate.
Detective Sergeant Led the Investigation
New City Patch quoted Detective Sergeant Randy DiPaolo about the police response. DiPaolo was promoted to detective sergeant in May 2024 to bolster the department's investigative division, the outlet noted.
Hall was charged with assault in the first degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, the article notes. The article cites NYS Open Legislation for Penal Law § 120.10 and NY Laws for Penal Law § 265.01.
Release Without Bail Draws Scrutiny
Hall was arraigned in the Village of Spring Valley Justice Court, where Judge Sweet presided over the proceeding and released him on his own recognizance, according to the Village's own court roster and reporting from Monsey Scoop. The village's Justice Court is located at 200 N. Main Street.

A Busy Stretch for Village Detectives
Hall's Sept. 9 arrest came the same day Spring Valley Police separately arrested a resident on second-degree assault and weapon charges tied to the physical abuse and abandonment of a 4-year-old child on Chestnut Street, according to Daily Voice. Paolo Chacaguasay-Evas was taken to Rockland County Jail after bail was set at $2,500 cash, $10,000 bond, or $30,000 partially secured bond, the outlet reported.
The cluster of cases follows a string of sharp-weapon incidents Spring Valley Police handled over the summer. In July, an 18-year-old was charged in a South Main Street bottle slashing, and another 18-year-old was arrested in a multi-victim stabbing near Jay Street and Division Avenue, according to Rockland County Times. The paper noted those July cases.
