A stolen-vehicle pursuit that started outside a Home Depot in Everett ended in a rollover crash on southbound I-5 near Lynnwood on Monday night, leaving two men with minor injuries and HOV lanes blocked for more than an hour. Deputies say the men will face arrest once they're released from the hospital.
According to FOX 13 Seattle, citing the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office and the Washington State Department of Transportation, deputies initiated the pursuit of a stolen vehicle just before 8 p.m. Monday near a Home Depot at the intersection of Airport Road and Highway 99 in Everett. Two men were inside the stolen vehicle, and they fled south onto I-5 as deputies pursued, per the sheriff's office.
Vehicle Flips in the Median Near 164th Street
The pursuit came to an abrupt end when the suspects' vehicle entered the median on I-5 near 164th Street Southwest and flipped over, as noted by KOMO News. Both men suffered minor injuries in the crash and were taken to local hospitals for treatment, per deputies. No additional injuries were reported in connection with the crash or the pursuit that preceded it.
Rather than facing immediate arrest at the scene, the two men are expected to be booked once they are medically cleared and released from the hospital, according to the same report. The Washington State Department of Transportation provided an image from the crash scene showing the aftermath on I-5.
Commute Disruption Lingered for Over an Hour
The wreck's location in the median meant the HOV lanes of I-5 near Lynnwood were blocked for more than an hour as crews worked the scene. The disruption occurred during the evening commute window.
