The National Weather Service Fort Worth office says any storms north and west of the main tropical moisture area should be isolated, but a stronger cell could still bring a brief downpour or gusty winds. Most of Dallas should remain dry, so outdoor plans are not necessarily washed out—just worth keeping an eye on the sky.
Thursday Brings Cooler Heat And More Rain Potential
Wednesday night brings a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms, with temperatures settling near 77 degrees. Tomorrow should be noticeably cooler, with a high near 92 and another 40% chance of rain, especially south and east of Dallas.
The broader region south of I-20 and east of I-35 faces a higher flash-flooding risk as moisture from the remnants of Edouard lingers. A Flood Watch remains in effect through Thursday afternoon for portions of the Brazos Valley, while Dallas-area rainfall is more likely to be scattered and uneven.
Weekend Heat Reasserts Itself
Friday could bring a few morning showers before skies turn mostly sunny, with a high near 97. The forecast then rebounds to 99 on Saturday, 98 next Sunday, and 99 on Labor Day, with mostly clear nights and lows in the upper 70s to around 80.
The latest outlook is a meaningful shift from Hoodline, which focused on 101-degree heat and an ozone alert. Today’s forecast trims the peak temperature slightly while adding a clearer window for rain and flooding concerns across parts of North and Central Texas.
Outdoor Plans Should Favor The Morning
With the heat index reaching 104 today, the morning will be the most comfortable time for exercise, errands, and outdoor work. Drink water regularly, take breaks in shade or air conditioning, and move indoors immediately if thunder develops.
Drivers heading south or east of the Dallas area Thursday should be prepared for sudden downpours, reduced visibility and water pooling on roads. The rain may be hit-or-miss in the city, but the heat will be widespread and back near 100 degrees by the holiday weekend.
