The main storm activity is expected early Friday afternoon as storms develop across the region. The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh forecasts the main Friday storm wave to arrive early Friday afternoon, with timing spread across a broader window rather than a specific 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. peak; damaging wind gusts and hail remain possible in stronger storms, according to the National Weather Service.
Storm Chances Continue Overnight And Saturday
Friday night stays mostly cloudy, with additional showers and thunderstorms possible through the evening and overnight hours. Temperatures will dip only to around 68 degrees, and another round of storms could affect the area before daybreak Saturday.
Saturday brings a cooler high near 81 degrees, but Friday-night storms are expected to depart Pittsburgh Saturday morning. Additional Saturday-afternoon storms are possible mainly along and south of Interstate 70. Rain chances taper Saturday night as a front pushes through, with lows falling to about 61 degrees.
According to Pittsburgh Water, during heavy rain or snow events, overloaded pipes can discharge combined sewage and stormwater overflows into waterways. Pittsburgh Water says its stormwater priorities include reducing combined sewer overflows, urban flooding and contamination of local waterways.
Sunny Stretch Arrives Sunday
The forecast finally settles down Sunday, which should be sunny with a high near 80 degrees and no rain expected. Sunday night will be mostly clear with a low around 59 degrees, setting up a comfortable start to the holiday.
Labor Day will be sunny and warm, with temperatures reaching about 81 degrees. Dry weather continues into early next week.
