Summerville Grill is under construction at its old address on St. Paul Boulevard in Irondequoit, and this time it's coming back under new ownership after sitting closed or occupied by a short-lived brewery for the past four years. A soft opening is planned for Oct. 12, with a grand opening to follow just two days later on Oct. 14.

The restaurant is rebuilding at 5370 St. Paul Blvd., the same spot Summerville Grill occupied for more than two decades before closing in 2022, according to the Democrat and Chronicle. That address later became home to Fifth Frame Brewing Company, which opened in the former Summerville space in fall 2024 before abruptly shutting down on New Year's Day, as reported by RochesterFirst. New owners have since acquired the business and will operate it under the Summerville Grill name.

Original owner Dan Garden retired from Summerville Grill in 2022. The reopening will use the Summerville Grill name.

A Neighborhood Restaurant's Return

Summerville Grill is set to reopen under new ownership.

The restaurant is being rebuilt ahead of its reopening.

Old Favorites Return Alongside New Dishes

The restaurant's website describes it as a “welcoming neighborhood bar & grill” featuring “expertly prepared dishes, fresh seafood and daily specials,” according to Summerville Grill's website. Many menu favorites are expected to return as the restaurant reopens.

Fifth Frame's downtown taproom temporarily closed as the company focused on renovation and construction.

Town records show the St. Paul Boulevard property has drawn municipal attention before. In February 2024, the Irondequoit Town Board considered a resolution to schedule a public hearing on a special-use permit for the address and referred the matter to the Planning Board for comment, according to an agenda posted by the Town of Irondequoit.

For now, the countdown is on. With a soft opening tentatively planned for Oct. 12 and a grand opening set for two days later, Irondequoit residents who've missed Summerville Grill won't have to wait much longer to see what the rebuilt space — and its refreshed menu — looks like in person.
