A 68-year-old man with dementia ran out the front door of his group home on Aster Drive in Sussex just after 4 p.m. Thursday, and Waukesha County deputies are once again asking the public to help find him. Abran Huerta is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, about 180 pounds, white, with brown hair and a receding hairline and hazel eyes. He was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, black sweatpants, white socks and a white baseball hat; his shoes and whether he had glasses with him are unknown.
Another Search for the Same Sussex Man
The Waukesha County Sheriff's Office sent details of Huerta's disappearance to FOX6 News Milwaukee through a Wisconsin Crime Alert Network email, and authorities say they need the public's help locating him. Thursday's Silver Alert is far from the first involving Huerta. In May, a Silver Alert was issued after he was last seen walking away from his Sussex group home near Lilac and Aster just before 2 p.m., according to a separate report from fox6now.com — and he was later found safe. That report also noted Huerta has dementia and a traumatic brain injury, according to the sheriff's office.
Descriptions of Huerta have varied somewhat between incidents. The May report described him with hazel eyes and short gray hair, while Thursday's account describes brown hair with a receding hairline. It is not clear from available reporting whether these differences reflect changes over time or inconsistencies in how he has been described.
A Pattern Stretching Back to 2025
In July, Huerta again left his Sussex group home and was last seen at a Qdoba in Wauwatosa around 11:30 a.m. on July 18, near Blue Mound Road and Mayfair Road, according to wisn.com. That report said he could have been headed toward Milwaukee, echoing the direction cited in the May incident. Anyone with information in that case was asked to call the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department at 262-446-5070 — the same number authorities are directing the public to now.
The pattern goes back further still. In March 2025, a Silver Alert was issued by Milwaukee police for a man identified as Huerta, then described as 67 years old, Hispanic, 5 feet 7 inches tall and 200 pounds — details that differ from the 68-year-old, white, roughly 180-pound man described in this year's alerts, according to jsonline.com. That report said Huerta was known to travel via the Milwaukee County Transit System and was ultimately found safe in Greenfield near South 92nd Street and West Howard Avenue.
Each of the prior Silver Alerts tied to Huerta's name ended with him located safe, including the May case in which the sheriff's office confirmed he had been found. Deputies have not yet said whether Thursday's search has concluded. People with information about Huerta's whereabouts are urged to contact the Waukesha County Sheriff's Office.
