Police urged residents to avoid part of a south Las Vegas neighborhood Friday as officers responded to a barricade situation at a residence near Wigwam Avenue and Pollock Drive. The incident involved a wanted person who had refused to leave the home, according to KTNV.
KTNV reported that the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department began trying to take the wanted individual into custody at about 8:35 a.m. Friday. After the person refused to come out, police classified the incident as a barricade and requested additional resources.
SWAT and Negotiators Called to the Scene
LVMPD requested SWAT officers and crisis negotiators as the response continued. Police said the person had refused to exit the residence and that the incident had been classified as a barricade.
Police asked the public to avoid Waterford Bend Street near Wigwam Avenue and Pollock Drive while officers remained at the scene, according to KTNV.
How LVMPD describes barricade responses
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, SWAT works with its Crisis Negotiation Team to seek voluntary surrender and respond to high-risk situations. The department says the teams gather information and allow time for decision-making and tactical planning while pursuing a peaceful resolution. In a separate LVMPD account, a man was taken into custody after several hours of negotiations following an April 21, 2026, barricade at an apartment complex in the 200 block of North 11th Street. That incident also involved the man pointing a gun at officers and an officer discharging a firearm.
How other barricade responses ended
Recent Las Vegas-area cases involved different circumstances and outcomes. In a separate incident on Aug. 17, 2026, a barricade near the University District’s 4000 block of University Center Drive and Flamingo Road ended with a suspect in custody after police responded to a destruction-of-property call and SWAT and crisis negotiators arrived, FOX5 Las Vegas reported: FOX5 Las Vegas.
The April incident differed from the Waterford Bend Street response described here because LVMPD said officers faced a firearm threat and reported an eventual arrest after negotiations. For the South Las Vegas situation, authorities had not immediately released information about an arrest, injuries or its resolution.
