A new bar called Rad's is headed to 116 Avenue C in the East Village, at the storefront between E. 7th and E. 8th Streets. The concept comes from the team behind two other neighborhood staples, Sweetie and Jewel Box, and promises a menu of bar classics alongside a central indoor bar, booth and stool seating, and an outdoor setup with tables on each side of the entrance.
According to WhatNow, which reported the opening and reached out to the Rad's team, the bar has not announced an official opening date. The outlet's report, written by Courtney McGinley, lays out planned hours that stretch from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Thursday, and 5 p.m. to 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Outdoors, the bar plans to operate Tuesday through Sunday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The food menu described in the same report leans into familiar bar fare: mac and cheese bites, mozzarella sticks, buffalo chicken dip, all-beef hot dogs, flatbreads, quesadillas, grilled cheese, and a broader lineup of appetizers and sandwiches. TVs are planned throughout the space, and the bar is expected to host occasional DJ performances alongside its regular service.
A Familiar Address Gets a New Concept
The Avenue C storefront has a listing for Ding-a-ling Cocktail Lounge, a 1970s-style retro bar and dance lounge, according to Ding-a-ling's listing, which describes the bar's late-night music program and house-party atmosphere.
Rad's is another venture associated with the Ballinger team.
Brothers With Deep East Village Roots
Stephen and Adam Ballinger are part of the team behind Sweetie and Jewel Box, according to WhatNow's earlier coverage of the brothers.
The group's other concepts include Sweetie and Jewel Box.
Licensing and Neighborhood Oversight
The pending application for Rad's seeks an On-Premises Liquor License for a bar and tavern with indoor music and outdoor seating positioned directly in front of the building, behind the property line.
The application will be considered under applicable New York State liquor-licensing rules.
