An early-morning observation showed clear skies and temperatures around 79 degrees, with humidity near 96%. The latest National Weather Service Tampa Bay forecast calls for an isolated shower around 7 a.m., followed by increasing storm chances late Friday morning and into the afternoon.
Heat Builds Before Afternoon Storms
Friday's high should reach about 92 degrees, though rain-cooled temperatures may fall toward the upper 80s later in the day. The heat index could reach 104, making water, shade and shorter outdoor outings especially important before storms become more numerous.
Rain chances are around 50%, with mostly sunny breaks between storms and generally light rainfall totals. Stronger cells could still bring brief heavy downpours, frequent lightning, sudden gusts and quick ponding on urban roads.
Weekend Plans Stay Storm-Sensitive
Saturday looks much like Friday, with a high near 93 and scattered showers and thunderstorms developing after 10 a.m. Sunday should reach about 92 degrees with a 40% storm chance, while Labor Day brings a high near 91 and another 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms.
The unsettled pattern is a sharper, more immediate update to Thursday's Hoodline forecast, with the next several days still offering a familiar Tampa tradeoff: sunny stretches early, then thunderstorm interruptions later. Coastal and boating plans should also account for lightning, locally rough water and a possibility of waterspouts during the morning hours.
Storm Chances Rise Again Tuesday And Wednesday
Tuesday and Wednesday will stay mostly sunny at first, but each day carries a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly from the afternoon into the evening. Thursday looks somewhat quieter, with scattered storms and a 30% chance of rain, while overnight lows remain in the mid-70s throughout the period.
No watches, warnings or advisories are currently in effect for Tampa or nearby Gulf waters. Anyone who hears thunder should move indoors, and drivers should be ready for sudden visibility drops when downpours develop.
