A 19-year-old man waiting near Rochester Avenue and Carroll Street to meet a woman he did not know was swarmed by a group who beat him, stole his phone and wallet, and fled on foot. The attack happened on September 5, and as of Thursday, no arrests had been made.
According to News 12 New York, the teen had arranged to meet an unidentified woman near Rochester Avenue and Carroll Street when a group approached and assaulted him before fleeing on foot with his belongings. He was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County, where he was listed in stable condition. Police have released an image of a suspect and are asking anyone with information to call 1-800-577-TIPS.
Detectives have not said whether the meetup was arranged through a specific app or social media platform, and that detail remains unconfirmed.
A Fatal Stabbing at the Park
A separate fatal stabbing took place inside Lincoln Terrace Park on August 18. On September 8, the NYPD arrested 25-year-old Deandre Creary of the Bronx and charged him with murder in that case, per News 12's coverage. The earlier killing involved 30-year-old Shakeema Davis, who was fatally stabbed multiple times during an overnight cookout in front of her 7-year-old son after she rejected a man's unwanted advances, the Brooklyn Eagle reported.
Dating-App Safety Warnings
A July 2026 report by Local 10 News described a rise in dating-app robberies and cases of victims being lured through apps, with federal authorities recommending that people meet strangers only in open, highly visible public settings.
